Following Climb Report received from Jamie
Our second acclimatisation summit was Iliniza Norte at 5126m. This is the second highest peak I have ever climbed (after Aconcagua 6962m). Again we had a beautiful hike up to the refugio at 4700m. At this altitude, headaches were starting, making us very aware of how important it is to acclimatise properly. From 4700m to the summit was less straight forward and involved a lot of scrambling over rocks with long drops on either side, we even had to cross a pass called Paso de la Muerte (Pass of the Dead). We finally reached the summit up in the clouds. While the views weren't there, the sense of relief and achievement definitely were.
For the descent, we took the direct route down the sandy scree. A lot of fun for a trail runner!!!
