Following Climb Report received from Jamie
This morning we successfully reached the summit of Volcan Cotopaxi, the 2nd highest mountain in Ecuador at 5897m. This is our third summit in five days.
We started the climb at the Jose Rivas Refugio (4864m) at 00.30am and trekked up onto the glacier and then on up towards the summit. Cotopaxi is an active volcano and as we neared the summit the smell of sulphur wafted down to us. The views were astonishing, though very hard to capture it all in the short time we were there.
My Aconcagua climbing buddy (@al_hogarth ) described it as beautiful but that was after a lot of acclimatisation... I would call it gnarly and tough, especially as I am not a huge fan of heights. It is beautiful too
